As Caractactus, Dick Van Dyke is a slightly crackpot inventor of complicated machinery that does simple tasks. His most imaginative creation is Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, an old racing car he’s turned into a combination car/boat/airplane. But when Potts and his children take the auto out for a seashore picnic, the adventure begins.
