The Lost Boys

Directed by Joel Schumacher. US. 1987. R. Running time: 97 min.

Sponsored by Iron Hill Brewery

“In 1987 director Joel Schumacher spun the tale of Peter Pan and his lost boys in a very dark direction. The Lost Boys is the story about two brothers, Michael (Jason Patric) and Sam (Corey Haim) trying to fit into a new town. Each fall into  separate crowds, however they end up fighting for the same thing: Michael’s soul. The Lost Boys is an incredible retelling of the vampire story set in the modern world. Kiefer Sutherland delivers a star making performance and Corey Feldman steals the spotlight as the young vampire hunter. This not a movie for the faint of heart but rest assured, you’ll have a kick ass time.” (Bob Trate) Watch the trailer here.

“Corey Haim plus Corey Feldman plus Joel Schumacher doesn’t seem like a foolproof formula for a good movie, but when the three oft-maligned figures united for 1987’s horror-comedy The Lost Boys, the result was briskly entertaining. Where Michael Mann’s Miami Vice famously introduced ’80s-style MTV cops, Schumacher and company introduced MTV vampires: leather-jacket-wearing, hairspray-abusing bloodsuckers who look like they just stepped out of an INXS video, and are ready to resume their role as the most Byronic figures at the mall” (Nathan Rabin, The Onion A.V. Club)

We got some disappointing news from Warrner Bros. The 35mm print of Lost Boys that we were told we could have is no longer available, so we’ll be screening it on DVD. Do still come! There’s no competing with seeing a fun movie like this with a crowd in a beautiful old theatre!
