It is a very busy week here at the theatre! We are carrying over I Am Love one more week. We have First Friday Fright Night tomorrow, a special movie festival on Saturday, and a new classics theme beginning on Sunday. Please note that we will be CLOSED on Monday for Labor Day.

Our FFFN screening of House is tomorrow at 10PM and sets the stage for our Asian Horror mini fest on Saturday! You know that crazy cat on the House poster? We’ve got a few large sticker versions to give away at the screening.

The Asian Horror Fest is this Saturday! Join us Sep 4 for three very different films that range from classic monster mayhem to genre pastiche to unrelenting gore: Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster, Big Trouble in Little China, and Audition. Adults: $8 per screening or $20 for all three; Students/Seniors: $6 per screening or $15 for all three; Members: $5 per screening or $10 for all three.

Following the Asian Horror Fest, join us in celebrating 20th Century Fox’s 75th Anniversary with a special screening of Night Shyamalan’s The Happening starring Mark Wahlberg on Saturday, Sept 4 at 7:30PM. Filmed locally, the theatre’s presentation includes a visit from the owners of the G Lodge, which was used as a location in the film.

Our Classic Series for September honors the Akira Kurosawa Centennial with double features each Sunday. We begin on Sept 5 with Stray Dog at 2PM and Rashomon at 4:30PM. All the films for this series will be screened on 35mm.

We’ve added two live acts to our schedule: comedienne Suzanne Westenhoefer on October 23 and musician Leo Kottke on December 10. Read about them below or at the website. Tickets on sale now.

Winter’s Bone has its last screening tonight at 7:30PM. On Friday, we start with I Am Love, starring Tilda Swinton at 7:30PM.

We’ve got a lot of news this week, so be sure to read on! Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work has its last screening tonight at 7:30PM. On Friday, we start with Winter’s Bone in the main auditorium at 7:30PM and The Greening of Southie in the 3rd floor Screening Room at 8:30PM.

The circus is in town! Bring the kids to the final show in the Children’s Summer Series, Zany Umbrella Circus on Tuesday at 10:30AM. Here is a link to a great circus “study guide” for kids, containing questions and answers, a page for coloring and more cool kid stuff!

The Colonial Theatre participates in the Phoenixville Green Festival tomorrow, Friday August 20. The Festival takes place downtown from 6:00-9:00PM and as part of it, the Theatre will present a FREE viewing of The Greening of Southie, sponsored by Phoenixville Federal Bank. There will be a discussion immediately following the film in the Screening Room. This film is unedited and may contain some language unsuitable for children.

Our Festival Classic this week is Woodstock, Sunday Aug 22 at 2PM. Come view the Director’s Cut of the definitive festival concert of the 60s.

Please Give has its last screening tonight at 7:30PM. Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work, a documentary about the sharp-tongued comedienne, starts tomorrow, Friday at 7:30PM.

Our Festival Classic this week by famed documentarians David & Albert Maysles is Gimme Shelter, Sunday Aug 15 at 2PM. Unlike its predecessors in this Classics series, this movie shows a darker side of rock and roll in the late 60s and early 70s. It is truly a classic.

On the other end of the spectrum, the delightful Silly Rockabilly concert is Tuesday at 10:30AM. Bring the whole family for a live show of great rock-n-roll classics!

Vincere has its last screening tonight at 7:30PM. Please Give starring Catherine Keener and Oliver Platt starts tomorrow, Friday at 7:30PM.

Before our Classic movie, starting at 1:00 PM, The Jumboree Players (including Blanko Dave) will play a one-hour concert of songs from the 1967 era that are related to the film. Our Festival Classic this week is Monterey Pop, this Sunday Aug 8 at 2PM. Following last week’s presentation of “Don’t Look Back,” this is the second of two must-see D.A. Pennebaker documentaries of 60s music and culture.

Exit Through the Gift Shop starts today, Friday, and Vincere starts on Jul 30. For the month of August we have Please Give, Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work, Winter’s Bone and I Am Love.

We have some spots available for our July 26-30 Chinese Lantern Workshop for kids ages 10+. This is a truly unique program led by Hua Hua Zhang, master puppet designer and choreographer. All workshop participants are invited to come to the East Meets West performance as our guests.

See puppeteer Hua Hua Zhang in our Children’s Summer Series on Tue, Jul 27 at 10:30AM with a great kids puppet show East Meets West. Tickets are $7 per person in advance, and $8 per person at the door. Children 2 and under are free. Online is the fastest, cheapest way to buy your tickets – and you will avoid the line at the box office!

The Classics on Sundays series is taking a short hiatus in July due to the 4th and BlobFest. The classics will be back in August with a bang – our theme is A Festival Crowd and we kick things off with Don’t Look Back on Aug 1 at 2PM.

Special thanks to Lbs. director Matthew Bonifacio and writer/actor Carmine Famiglietti for joining us at our film discussion last night. The film was great and it was so interesting to hear about making the film and breaking into the movie business, as well as learning and talking about addiction in general. Thanks to Matt and Carmine for visiting Phoenixville!

BlobFest 2010 was a little wet, but the rain stopped long enough for us to have a great running out. If you haven’t seen it yet, here is a great video. BlobFest is over but we still have plenty of t-shirts and posters. Stop by and get one or pick one up the next time you’re at the movies.

People, get ready! BlobFest starts tomorrow! The Friday Night Running Out Re-Enactment Revelry is SOLD OUT, but there are still tickets available for all of the film screenings on Saturday and Sunday. And here’s an insider tip — watching the running out from across the street is plenty of fun in it’s own right! Before you head downtown for the fest this weekend, be sure to familiarize yourself with Pville’s current parking situation. What we know about it is on our website.
